What you'll do

Design and build Android framework services and background daemons to interface with hardware peripherals and payment kernels.
Integrate POS vendor SDKs for external hardware like receipt printers, cash drawers, and barcode scanners.
Manage Android USB OTG Host APIs, handle USB events, and implement socket programming for network-connected peripherals.
Develop core platform infrastructure to ensure low-latency data synchronization across diverse terminal device types.
Investigate and resolve complex system integration issues, OS regressions, and hardware peripheral bugs on production devices.
Partner with product management and international certification teams to refine technical specifications and hardware testing.
Participate in a regular on-call rotation to provide production support and maintain fleet-wide device health.
Use AI-powered development tools to accelerate framework development, optimize infrastructure, and streamline root-cause analysis.

What we're looking for

Must possess valid and unrestricted U.S. work authorization.
2+ years of professional software development experience focusing on Android platform architecture and framework design.
Hands-on experience developing native Android applications and background services in Kotlin and Java.
Proficiency in at least two major languages used in the Android stack, such as Kotlin, Java, C, or C++.
Practical proficiency with Android USB Host APIs (USB OTG), USB device permissions, and socket programming.
Experience developing performant Android UIs for custom terminal screen sizes and hardware constraints.
Strong working knowledge of version control and code review tools, including Git and Gerrit.
Broad understanding of platform security protocols, PKI, digital certificates, encryption/decryption, and hardware-level security (HSM).
Experience leveraging AI coding tools and LLM assistants for code generation, refactoring, and debugging.
Experience modifying AOSP, building custom Android system services, or working within frameworks/base/ (preferred).
Prior experience integrating third-party vendor SDKs for POS, retail, or kiosk hardware (preferred).
Familiarity with low-level microcontrollers, embedded C development, or Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) (preferred).
