JOB TITLE: 2027 Early Career Flight Software Engineer
The 2027 Early Career Flight Software Engineer joins the Flight Engineering department to support the development of advanced autonomous systems. This entry-level role involves assisting in the design and development of flight software algorithms, guidance, navigation, and control systems, or simulation models. Day-to-day responsibilities include participating in software and hardware integration and testing across lab, ground, and flight environments, while analyzing data from simulations to inform system improvements. Candidates should possess skills in software development, control theory, or analytical modeling. The role requires experience with tools like Python, MATLAB, ArduPilot, or PX4, and hardware such as Raspberry Pi or Pixhawk. The work focuses on solving engineering challenges to advance UAS and missile technologies within a defense context.
Design and develop flight software algorithms, GNC systems, or simulation models.
Integrate and test software and hardware components in lab, ground, or flight environments.
Analyze data from simulations and flight test events to drive system improvements.
Solve engineering challenges to enhance the performance of UAS and missile technologies.
Use Python or MATLAB to perform post-flight data analysis.
Integrate flight hardware components including servos, IMUs, and GNSS receivers.
Utilize SITL or HITL simulation environments for software and hardware testing.
What we're looking for
Must be pursuing or have recently completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities.
Must be able to start full time in 2027.
A strong foundation in software development, control theory, or analytical modeling (preferred).
Keen interest in autonomous systems, UAS, and missile technology (preferred).
Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills (preferred).
Hands-on experience with Design-Build-Fly teams, robotics competition teams, or collegiate rocketry groups (preferred).
Credible demonstration of aerospace-related hobbies, open-source autopilot software experience, hardware integration, or familiarity with electrical test equipment and data analysis tools (preferred).
