As a 2027 Early Career Flight Software Engineer, you will join the Flight Engineering department to support the development of advanced autonomous systems. You will work alongside experts in flight software, guidance, navigation, and control, or modeling, simulation, and analysis. Your daily responsibilities include designing and developing flight software algorithms, integrating hardware components during ground or flight tests, and analyzing data from simulations to improve system performance for UAS and missile technologies. The role requires a strong foundation in software development, control theory, or analytical modeling. You will utilize tools such as Python, MATLAB, and open-source autopilot suites like ArduPilot or PX4. Technical skills include experience with serial communication protocols like UART, CAN, I2C, and SPI, as well as hardware integration involving IMUs, GNSS receivers, and flight simulation environments like SITL or HITL.
Design and develop flight software algorithms, GNC systems, or simulation models.
Integrate and test software and hardware components in lab, ground, or flight environments.
Analyze data from simulations and flight tests to inform system improvements.
Solve complex engineering challenges to advance UAS and missile technologies.
Develop advanced autonomous systems using AI, computer vision, and sensor fusion.
Perform post-flight data analysis using tools like Python or MATLAB.
What we're looking for
Must be pursuing or have recently completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Must be a U.S. Person due to export-controlled information requirements.
Ability to start full-time employment in 2027.
Preferred foundation in software development, control theory, or analytical modeling depending on the specific track.
Experience with open-source autopilot software suites like ArduPilot or PX4.
Experience integrating flight hardware components and serial communication protocols such as UART, CAN, I2C, and SPI.
Familiarity with electrical test equipment and data analysis using Python or MATLAB.
Demonstrated experience in robotics, rocketry, or autonomous systems through teams or personal projects.
