Systems Engineer, Research Infrastructure & Lab Platforms

What you'll do

• Architect, deploy, and support hybrid Linux and Windows compute environments across bare metal, hypervisors, and containers.
• Manage enterprise hypervisors such as Proxmox, VMware ESXi, KVM, or Hyper-V.
• Build and manage lightweight micro-environments using Docker, Podman, and LXC.
• Develop Bash, Python, and PowerShell scripts to automate manual configurations and deployment workflows.
• Administer core services including Active Directory, LDAP, DNS, DHCP, and network integrations.
• Implement system hardening, backup/DR pipelines, and continuous monitoring to ensure research uptime.
• Troubleshoot complex system interactions and perform root-cause analysis on infrastructure issues.

What we're looking for

• Active TS/SCI clearance is required.
• 8+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, Systems Administration, or DevOps roles supporting enterprise or engineering lab environments.
• Demonstrated expertise administering, securing, and troubleshooting both Linux and Windows operating systems.
• Proven track record building and operating hypervisors (Proxmox, KVM, VMware, or Hyper-V) and container workloads (Docker, LXC, or Podman).
• Ability to write scripts in Bash, Python, or PowerShell for administrative and deployment tasks.
• Solid grasp of Active Directory/LDAP, DNS, subnetting, VLANs, and virtual switch architectures.
• Experience managing high-performance lab testbeds, air-gapped systems, or isolated network segments (preferred).
• Knowledge of IaC tools (Ansible, Terraform, SaltStack), enterprise databases, ITSM platforms, or relevant industry certifications (preferred).
