As a Staff Software Engineer at Uber’s Core Services Production Engineering team in San Francisco or Sunnyvale, you will work on complex systems that serve millions of users globally. Your role involves designing and implementing software to enhance the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of thousands of production services across multiple data centers. You’ll lead initiatives to automate processes, set standards, and develop developer tooling and frameworks that improve mean time between failures (MTBF), time to detection (TTD), and time to mitigation (TTM). Key responsibilities include chaos testing, dependency safety, observability, and graceful degradation. The ideal candidate has 8+ years of experience in Go, Java, Python, or similar languages, with a strong background in SRE, reliability engineering, and incident management at large-scale companies. You should also have experience mentoring teams while remaining hands-on and technical.

What we're looking for
8+ years of experience in software engineering with languages like Go, Java, or Python.
Proven ability to deliver end-to-end solutions from problem definition to implementation and delivery.
Strong background in SRE, reliability engineering, and incident management at a large-scale company.
Experience in platform/infrastructure engineering including compute platform, storage, networking, developer tools, and observability.
Writes clear technical proposals and drives alignment through design documents and discussions.
Mentoring and leading teams while remaining hands-on and technically engaged.
