As a Staff, Software Engineer- Data Engineer, you will join the Walmart Data Ventures team to lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities. You will drive the full software development lifecycle, focusing on cloud-native architecture and AI/ML integration to build infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks. Your daily responsibilities include coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and mentoring engineers while conducting system design reviews to ensure architectural best practices. You will utilize a technical stack including Java, SQL/NoSQL databases, Kafka, Kubernetes, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Maven, Spark, Scala, and Python. The role specifically addresses the technical challenge of providing actionable, customer-centric insights through the Scintilla platform, requiring expertise in distributed caching, containerization, and microservices to solve complex data problems for merchants and CPGs.
Lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities and cloud-native architectures.
Manage the full software development lifecycle including coding, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
Build AI-driven applications and integrate machine learning components to support automation.
Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure architectural best practices.
Develop infrastructure tooling and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones.
Mentor engineers and influence technical decisions through documentation and knowledge sharing.
Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and track success metrics.
What we're looking for
Obtain a Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area and 4 years of software engineering experience.
Alternatively, possess 6 years of experience in software engineering or a related area.
Demonstrate proven expertise in object-oriented programming and documentation-based coding practices.
Possess expert-level knowledge of Java, SQL/NoSQL databases, distributed caching, Kafka, and container technologies.
Guide engineers in building secure REST services using Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Kafka, Kubernetes, Maven, and cloud technologies.
Possess good knowledge of Spark, Scala, and Python.
Architect cloud-native, resilient systems using microservices and containerization.
Master’s degree in a related field and 2 years of experience (preferred); knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA standards and digital accessibility (preferred).
