The Staff Product Sourcing Engineer joins the Rocket Motor Systems team to drive strategic supply network development and cost management for product hardware across its entire lifecycle. Working cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams, this individual manages supplier selection, conducts value-stream mapping to optimize lead times, and oversees CAPEX during new product introduction. Key responsibilities include developing manufacturing BOMs, performing risk assessments for component sourcing, and leading cost engineering activities to manage total cost of ownership against inflation and tariffs. The role requires expertise in procurement engineering, electronics, and mechanical device design within a high-mix, low-volume environment. Candidates must possess skills in concept scoping, feature trade-off modeling, and simulation of designs. This position specifically addresses the technical challenges of producing solid rocket motors within highly regulated environments to ensure quality and reliability.
Select suppliers for specific products using the approved supplier list.
Partner with strategic suppliers to accelerate product development through concept scoping and design simulations.
Develop and consolidate manufacturing Bills of Materials (BOM) to enable production flexibility.
Manage capital expenditures throughout the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase.
Conduct value-stream mapping to optimize supply network lead times and flexibility.
Perform BOM risk assessments including the identification of alternate component sources.
Ensure all components meet necessary qualifications before production begins.
Lead cost engineering activities to minimize total cost of ownership across the product lifecycle.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in engineering or another technical field.
10+ years of experience in sourcing engineering, supplier engagement and development, or design of electronics and/or mechanical devices.
Domain expertise in value/procurement engineering or TCO-related work at the component and product level.
Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
Ability to relocate to Huntsville, AL if not already local.
Master's degree or advanced technical degree (preferred).
Experience in electronics/mechanical design, advanced sourcing, supplier development, or early supplier engagement (preferred).
Experience in highly regulated environments like energetics and solid rocket motor production; high-tech products; startup environments; and ability to obtain a U.S. TS clearance (preferred).
