Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Visual AI

What you'll do

• Build state-of-the-art visual encoders, vision-language models (VLMs), and diffusion models for Pinterest's core products.
• Experiment with billion-scale image datasets using large-scale GPU computing infrastructure.
• Develop flexible visual reasoning tools including composed image retrieval and instruction-tuned embedding models.
• Construct data agents to generate training data across multimodal representation and generative editing domains.
• Collaborate with product and infrastructure engineers to ship new capabilities into the production environment.
• Publish research findings through conference submissions, academic papers, and company blog posts.
• Mentor junior researchers and interns within the Pinterest Labs organization.

What we're looking for

• Experience building and training large-scale vision models across various categories.
• Preferred experience with multimodal representations and visual language modeling.
• A track record of research contributions through publications, open-source work, or shipping ML models to production.
• Hands-on experience with large-scale model training and modern deep learning frameworks like PyTorch.
• Experience using AI-accelerated research tooling such as auto-research or data agents.
• Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-moving team.
• M.S. or PhD in Machine Learning or related academic areas, or equivalent work experience.
• Must be a US-based applicant.
