The ideal candidate has over 10 years of experience in data engineering with expertise in cloud technologies (AWS, GCP), data processing frameworks like Spark or Flink, and programming languages such as Java, Python, and SQL. Experience in media, streaming, digital advertising, and consumer-facing products at scale is preferred.

What you'll do

  • Define and execute CNN’s Data Platform data strategy and architecture direction.
  • Architect scalable data pipelines for real-time streaming and batch processing.
  • Enable cross-functional teams by defining platform APIs and self-service capabilities.
  • Drive technical standards and mentor engineers up to Staff level.
  • Communicate architectural decisions and technical tradeoffs clearly across the organization.
  • Evangelize and oversee implementation of data engineering best practices.

What we're looking for

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with expertise in data engineering and large-scale data systems
  • Deep knowledge of cloud technology (AWS, GCP, Azure) including data-specific services like EMR, Glue, S3, Athena, Redshift
  • Strong expertise in data processing frameworks (Spark, Flink) and orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster)
  • Experience with data modeling, ETL architecture, and designing schemas for diverse analytical and ML use cases
  • Programming proficiency in at least two languages: Java, Go, Python, SQL
  • Proven leadership in setting technical direction and engineering standards across multiple teams
  • Experience leading the design and implementation of end-to-end analytics pipelines
