As a Sr ML Researcher Multi-Modal Reasoning, you will join the Content Understanding team to advance Apple Intelligence capabilities through research and production-scale multimodal machine learning. The role requires expertise in training and adapting large language models at the intersection of NLP and Vision. You will utilize Python and PyTorch while leveraging experience in distributed training and large-scale data infrastructure. This position focuses on solving complex problems in generative models to improve creative workflows, smart assistants, and personalized user interactions across various device interfaces.

What you'll do

  • Architect and deploy production-scale multimodal machine learning models.
  • Train and adapt large language models for downstream tasks and alignment.

  • Prototype and integrate bleeding-edge algorithmic innovations into agentic experiences.
  • Lead cross-functional efforts involving modeling, prototyping, validation, and private learning.
  • Collaborate with system engineers to integrate research into large-scale data infrastructure.
  • Develop technologies for personalized RAG workstreams, tool calling, and context compaction.

What we're looking for

  • PhD with 5+ years experience or MS with equivalent experience in CS, EE, math, physics, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience training LLMs and adapting pre-trained LLMs for downstream tasks and alignment.
  • Modeling experience at the intersection of NLP and Vision.
  • Proficiency in an ML toolkit such as PyTorch.
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Proven track record of research contributions through publications in top-tier conferences or open source contributions to algorithms.
  • Experience with building and deploying Multimodal-LLMs (preferred).
  • Familiarity with distributed training and large-scale data infrastructure (preferred).
