Software Engineer, Backend (C/C++)

What you'll do

• Develop and maintain the core test infrastructure framework and applications used across SpaceX.
• Build and evolve tools for production testing, integration testing, and high-fidelity simulations.
• Improve the reliability, performance, and safety of test software and infrastructure.
• Own all aspects of software engineering and product development for test infrastructure.
• Develop new features and improve user experiences for flight software engineers.
• Deep dive into user problems to create and implement efficient software solutions.
• Build out SpaceXAI tooling to improve engineering capacity and developer experience.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or scientific discipline; OR 2+ years of professional software experience.
• 1+ years of experience with C/C++.
• 1+ years of experience with Python.
• Experience developing telemetry-based software (preferred).
• Expertise in designing software systems (preferred).
• Front-end experience in Angular, React, or similar JavaScript framework (preferred).
• Deep understanding of testing, continuous integration, build, deployment, and monitoring (preferred).
• Understanding of agentic workflows and utilizing AI to improve developer experience (preferred).
• Expertise in profiling and improving application performance (preferred).
• Experience with build systems (Make and Bazel preferred) and package management tools (pip, npm) (preferred).
• Experience with UNIX-like operating systems and tools like Ansible and Puppet (preferred).
• Production experience with Docker, Containerd, LXC, and/or Kubernetes (preferred).
• Database experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar database technologies (preferred).
• Must be a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee eligible for Department of State authorization.
