As a Senior Staff Engineer and Technical Lead for Airbnb’s Payments Compliance organization, you will own the technical vision and architectural direction across Policy Enforcement, Identity, Screening, Auditing, and Compliance Experience. You will ensure compliance systems are cohesive, scalable, and aligned with broader company priorities in an increasingly complex global regulatory environment. Your responsibilities include setting the architectural direction for nearly 30 engineers, driving foundational shifts like moving from an account-centric to a customer-centric model, expanding KYC capabilities, and adapting systems to new digital identity standards without costly re-platforming. You will partner with cross-organizational engineering teams and cross-functional stakeholders to minimize operational costs and customer friction while meeting AML, KYC, and sanctions screening obligations. The ideal candidate has over 15 years of technical experience, including setting technical direction for large organizations, designing systems that span multiple domains, and translating regulatory requirements into scalable architectures.
