The Sr. Staff Engineer role within Invenergy’s Battery Storage Engineering Group involves collaborating closely with OEMs to gather technical information and stay updated on advancements in battery storage technology. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing conceptual project layouts, conducting site visits for evaluations, and supporting federal and local permitting processes. The position also entails managing the layout and design of battery arrays, coordinating with electrical engineering teams, and interfacing with project management and operations teams to ensure smooth transitions during commercial operations. Additionally, the Sr. Staff Engineer will support RFPs by working with procurement and manufacturers to quote systems, prepare pricing models, and determine project sizing based on market drivers and customer needs. The ideal candidate has a BS in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering, 2+ years of experience preferably in renewable energy, and proficiency in tools like QGIS, CAD, Visio, and Microsoft Office products. Knowledge of battery storage systems, communication protocols, and financial modeling concepts is preferred.
Interface with OEMs to obtain technical information on battery storage technologies.
Prepare conceptual project layouts using QGIS, CAD, or Visio software.
Conduct site visits for evaluation and due diligence of potential projects.
Manage layout and design of the battery array and coordinate with vendors.
Support electrical system design and compliance efforts with the Electrical Engineering team.
Provide technical responses to lender and independent engineer due diligence questions.
What we're looking for
BS degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
At least 2 years of experience in engineering or a related technical discipline, preferably in renewable energy.
Familiarity with battery storage system design and procurement processes.
Experience with electrical engineering design and contract negotiations.
Knowledge of communication protocols like Modbus, TCP/IP, CANbus, or DNP3.
