The Senior Specialist, Software Engineering (DevOps) joins the ATLAS team to build and operate mission-critical backend and deployment capabilities supporting the U.S. Space Force. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing services for concurrent training scenarios, implementing scenario-time control, and establishing deployment automation and configuration practices. You will utilize Java, Spring Boot, SQL, and Kubernetes to support the Advanced Tracking & Launch Analysis System. Key technical tasks involve troubleshooting distributed applications, managing workload isolation, and integrating virtual-cluster technologies. This position solves complex problems in space mission environments by ensuring reliable, resilient capabilities for operational and training needs through robust backend engineering and automated infrastructure management.

What you'll do

Design, develop, test, and sustain backend microservices and APIs using Java, Spring Boot, and SQL.
Develop services to support concurrent training scenarios, including execution coordination and scenario-data management.
Design and implement Kubernetes deployment and orchestration solutions for automated provisioning and workload isolation.
Integrate virtual-cluster technologies to meet isolation, scalability, security, and operational requirements.
Establish service interfaces, deployment automation, configuration practices, and integration testing with platform and DevOps teams.
Develop automated tests and observability capabilities to validate application functionality and deployment reliability.
Troubleshoot and optimize backend services, database interactions, and Kubernetes workloads across all environments.

What we're looking for

Must hold or be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
Bachelor’s degree with 6 years of relevant experience, graduate degree with 4 years, or 10 years of experience without a degree.
Strong hands-on experience developing backend microservices and APIs using Java, Spring Boot, and SQL.
Experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting distributed applications, including concurrent processing and data consistency.
Hands-on experience deploying and managing Kubernetes-based applications, including deployment automation and workload isolation.
Experience developing data initialization, provisioning, or lifecycle-management capabilities for training or simulation environments.
Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, application configuration management, and working in Linux and Windows Server environments.
U.S. citizens.
