As a Senior Software ML Engineer - Watch Software, you will join a multi-disciplinary team focused on developing innovative sensing experiences and features for Apple Watch. You will be responsible for the full machine learning development cycle, including designing, implementing, and shipping ML-powered features on watchOS. Your daily work involves building Swift or Objective-C frameworks to encapsulate models, interfacing with sensors, and communicating with UX layers while optimizing code for specific power and performance constraints. You will develop algorithms using multimodal sensor data, such as motion and audio, to detect user activities and contextual situations. To succeed, you must be proficient in Swift, Objective-C, Python, and deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow. This role solves the technical challenge of translating complex research into high-impact, on-device products that enhance human-computer interaction through advanced sensing technologies.
Design, implement, and ship new ML-powered features specifically for watchOS.
Build Swift or Objective-C frameworks to encapsulate models and interface with device sensors.
Profile and optimize code to meet the specific performance and power constraints of Apple Watch.
Develop and optimize ML algorithms using multimodal sensor data like motion and audio to detect user activities.
Create tools, analytics, and processes to validate and quantify algorithm performance both offline and on-device.
Drive innovation by evolving research ideas into high-impact, user-facing product features.
What we're looking for
M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
Proficiency with Swift or Objective-C and developing on Apple platforms.
Experience using Python and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow for predictive modeling.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work independently or in small teams.
Experience optimizing and profiling applications for performance and power consumption (preferred).
Ability to work within the full ML development cycle, including data collection, training, evaluation, and deployment to resource-constrained devices (preferred).
