As a Senior Software Engineer on the Compute Platform team within the Platform group at Coinbase, you will own and enhance the primary compute orchestration infrastructure that supports all of Coinbase’s services. You will also develop developer-friendly tools and workflows for interacting with Kubernetes, integrating AI-driven processes to improve efficiency. Additionally, you will deliver new compute functionalities such as job scheduling and deployment strategies while partnering closely with Security, Reliability, and Observability teams to maintain high standards of security and performance. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in building and operating Kubernetes or similar systems, hands-on knowledge of AWS/GCP infrastructure services, expertise in the CNCF ecosystem, and a track record of applying AI tooling to enhance infrastructure workflows.

What you'll do

  • Own the design and operation of Kubernetes cluster management tooling for reliability and self-healing.
  • Build developer-friendly tooling and workflows to enhance interaction with Kubernetes at Coinbase.
  • Deliver new compute capabilities like cron scheduling and automated right-sizing for service owners.
  • Drive operational excellence by automating tasks, reducing on-call burden, and improving observability.
  • Partner with Security, Reliability, and Observability teams to ensure high standards for the platform.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3 years in Kubernetes or similar orchestration systems.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with AWS and/or GCP infrastructure services in a large-scale production environment.
  • Strong track record of designing, implementing, and operating distributed infrastructure systems.
  • Proficient in the CNCF ecosystem tools (Helm, Prometheus, ArgoCD, Envoy) for solving real-world infrastructure challenges.
  • Experience applying AI tooling to enhance automation, developer productivity, or operational efficiency in infrastructure workflows.
