As a Senior Software Engineer on the Data Compute team at Robinhood, you will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing scalable infrastructure for Spark and Airflow to support millions of daily jobs. Your responsibilities include leading the migration of workloads to Databricks and Delta Lake architectures while optimizing resource utilization and efficiency across large-scale distributed systems. You’ll collaborate with internal teams to deliver seamless data processing experiences, enhance platform reliability through advanced metadata management using Unity Catalog and Trino, and drive technical direction in partnership with engineering leaders. This role requires extensive experience with Spark, Databricks, Airflow, Delta Lake, and familiarity with query infrastructure like Trino or Hive Metastore.
Design and build scalable platform primitives for Spark and Airflow to support global data infrastructure.
Lead migration of Spark workloads to serverless Databricks and Delta Lake architectures.
Optimize compute resource utilization to manage costs in large-scale distributed systems.
Improve platform reliability by implementing advanced metadata management via Unity Catalog.
Enhance developer experience through seamless, self-serve data processing solutions.
What we're looking for
Extensive experience with large-scale Spark and Databricks platforms.
Deep expertise in data orchestration using Airflow for complex job management.
Proven track record with lakehouse fundamentals, including Delta Lake and Parquet.
Familiarity with query infrastructure such as Trino, Pinot, or Hive Metastore.
Ability to own multi-team platform reliability initiatives.
