TL;DR · Senior iOS Engineer, Media Experience
As a Senior iOS Engineer on the Media Experience team, you will drive the technical strategy for user-facing features designed to enhance video discovery and consumption. You will design and build immersive viewing surfaces, intuitive UI flows, and high-performance media components while managing complex media lifecycles. The role involves collaborating with backend, feed, and machine learning teams to translate platform capabilities like HLS streaming into seamless front-end experiences. You will work in an experiment-driven culture, utilizing A/B testing, performance signals, and Quality of Experience metrics to optimize the product. To succeed, you must possess over five years of experience developing native iOS applications using Swift. Key technical competencies include expertise with AVFoundation, VideoToolbox, and integrating recommendation systems to solve the challenge of making video consumption intuitive for a large audience.
What you'll do
- Lead the iOS architecture for features that improve video discovery and consumption.
- Design and build immersive viewing surfaces and intuitive UI/UX flows to maximize watch time.
- Execute rapid prototyping and A/B testing to measure product success through data and performance signals.
- Translate backend capabilities like HLS streaming and ML recommendations into seamless front-end iOS features.
- Partner with Product, Design, and Data Science teams to shape the technical roadmap.
- Establish best practices for integrating media components and managing complex media lifecycles.
- Ensure high rendering performance and app stability across various devices and network conditions.
What we're looking for
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience developing user-facing iOS mobile native applications at scale using Swift.
- Experience building feature-rich products on top of core media playback components like AVFoundation and VideoToolbox.
- Ability to lead technical strategy for iOS architecture, including UI/UX flows and media lifecycle management.
- Proficiency in utilizing data, Quality of Experience (QoE) signals, and A/B testing to drive product decisions.
- Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, Design, Data Science, and backend engineering.
- Ability to communicate complex technical trade-offs clearly to both peer engineers and executive stakeholders.
- Experience navigating ambiguity and moving at a high pace in a growth-oriented team environment.
- Familiarity with HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) and integrating with recommendation or feed systems (preferred).
