Silvus is hiring a Senior Defensive Security Engineer – Embedded Systems to join the Software Engineering team, reporting directly to the Director of Software Engineering. This role involves designing and implementing robust security measures for Linux-based embedded systems, including secure boot processes and kernel hardening, while also conducting regular security assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities. The engineer will integrate best practices into the development lifecycle, manage timely updates and patches, and train teams on Linux security protocols. Key responsibilities include developing intrusion detection mechanisms using tools like iptables and netfilter, implementing encryption and authentication methods such as dm-crypt and OpenSSL, and participating in incident response planning. Ideal candidates have expertise in C/C++, Python, Bash scripting, and experience with security frameworks like CIS Benchmarks and NIST SP 800-53. This position requires a deep understanding of Linux network security and secure coding practices for embedded systems, making it crucial for protecting Silvus’s technology from potential threats.
Design and implement Linux-based security architectures for embedded systems.
Develop and enforce Linux security features like iptables, netfilter, and auditd.
Conduct security assessments to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities in embedded systems.
Integrate Linux security best practices into the development lifecycle (DevSecOps).
Manage vulnerabilities by applying timely patches and kernel updates.
Train teams on Linux security practices including privilege management and container security.
What we're looking for
Minimum 5 years in cybersecurity, at least 2 years in defensive security roles focused on Linux-based systems.
Expertise in Linux network security, secure coding, or embedded systems security.
Coding/scripting experience in C/C++, Python, Bash, or assembly for Linux environments.
Familiarity with Linux security tools like auditd, Lynis, and vulnerability scanners.
Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident).
Experience implementing Linux security controls such as SELinux, AppArmor, iptables, and conducting security assessments.
