Senior Backend Software Engineer, Platform Engineering, Services Data Science & Analytics will join the Services Data Science & Analytics Platform Engineering team to design, build, and operate backend services forming the foundation of the data platform. This role involves owning core platform services end-to-end, including API design, query routing, caching infrastructure, and data lineage to meet high-scale latency demands. The engineer will collaborate with Data Engineering, Data Science, and Machine Learning Engineering teams to shape the scalability of the analytical foundation. Required skills include expert proficiency in Python or Node.js/TypeScript, experience with distributed systems, and knowledge of REST, gRPC, or GraphQL. Technical requirements include experience with Snowflake, Trino, Spark, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Prometheus, and Grafana to manage data governance and service delivery.

What you'll do

Design and build backend services for the data science and analytics platform.
Own core platform services from API design and query routing to caching and data lineage.
Ensure platform services perform reliably at high scale and low latency.
Make architectural decisions to shape the scalability and durability of the analytical foundation.
Manage and serve data at scale while ensuring data governance and privacy.
Mentor engineers and drive the technical roadmap for platform strategy.
Integrate systems with distributed data stores like Snowflake, Trino, or Spark.
Implement observability practices using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry.

What we're looking for

8+ years of experience building and operating high-performance, production-grade backend API services.
Expert proficiency in Python or Node.js/TypeScript, including async programming and framework-level development.
Demonstrated experience designing and operating distributed systems with strict reliability and latency SLAs.
Strong proficiency with API design and service-to-service communication patterns like REST, gRPC, or GraphQL.
Hands-on experience with multi-layer caching architectures and cache invalidation strategies.
Extensive experience building systems that integrate with distributed data stores like Snowflake, Trino, Spark, or PostgreSQL.
Proficiency with Kubernetes, including deployment, HPA, StatefulSets, and namespace management.
BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
