TL;DR · Senior Architect, COTS Applications

The Senior Architect, COTS Applications serves as the architecture leader for the group's commercial off-the-shelf application portfolio. This role involves leading and mentoring a team of architects while defining multi-year architectural roadmaps, integration strategies, and reference architectures. The individual will oversee major programs including vendor selection, configuration-versus-customization decisions, and lifecycle management to ensure systems are resilient and secure. Key responsibilities include collaborating with internal engineering teams and business partners to translate requirements into technical designs that align with enterprise standards. The role requires expertise in SaaS, on-premise COTS, hybrid integration landscapes, API/event-driven integration, iPaaS, identity and access, and master data management. This position addresses the challenge of modernizing legacy systems and managing technical debt within complex, regulated environments to ensure seamless integration between COTS solutions and custom-built capabilities while maintaining strict compliance with GxP and data security policies.

What you'll do

  • Lead and manage a team of architects by providing coaching, performance management, and technical mentorship.
  • Define and execute multi-year architectural roadmaps for COTS applications and integration strategies.
  • Oversee major programs from vendor selection through implementation, configuration, and lifecycle management.
  • Establish reference architectures and design patterns to standardize "what good looks like" for the team.
  • Serve as a technical authority in governance forums to evaluate trade-offs, risks, and build-vs-buy decisions.
  • Partner with business and engineering teams to translate business requirements into sound architectural designs.
  • Ensure all COTS solutions comply with security, GxP, and data privacy regulations by design.
  • Align the COTS application strategy with broader infrastructure, data, and enterprise architecture ecosystems.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's Degree with 9 years of experience, Master's with 8 years, or PhD with 4 years in COTS, integration, or enterprise architecture roles.
  • Experience leading and managing a team of architects or senior technologists, including coaching and performance management.
  • Demonstrated leadership in designing and executing COTS application and integration strategies across SaaS, on-premise, and hybrid landscapes.
  • Deep expertise in modern COTS and integration practices, including configuration-first delivery, API/event-driven integration, iPaaS, and security-by-design.
  • Track record of guiding organizations through complex COTS implementation, upgrade, consolidation, or modernization programs involving legacy systems.
  • Strong enterprise influence skills to operate effectively in governance forums, architectural review boards, and vendor negotiations.
  • Ability to articulate complex architectural concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals (preferred).
