JOB TITLE: Security Researcher The Security Researcher joins a team of experts in digital forensics, incident response, investigation, operations, and academic research. This role involves conducting applied research into the functionality of emerging and ubiquitous technologies across all logical layers, including component-level aspects, system and software implementations, and communication protocols. The researcher will examine variations between expected and actual functionality in real-world implementations and advise stakeholders on the implications of these findings. Key responsibilities include developing creative solutions, delivering rigorous prototype implementations, and analyzing network traffic or exploit development. Required skills include deep knowledge of Internet protocols, systems-level programming, UNIX/Linux experience, and familiarity with hardware and software vulnerabilities. Candidates should also possess experience with RF and SDR technologies to support technical research in the national security space.

What you'll do

  • Conduct applied research into the functionality of emerging and ubiquitous technologies across all logical layers.
  • Analyze variations between expected and actual functionality resulting from real-world software and hardware implementations.
  • Develop and deliver concise, rigorous prototype implementations to solve technical challenges.
  • Analyze network traffic and develop exploits to identify system vulnerabilities.
  • Implement novel file and format extraction techniques within software environments.
  • Advise US Government stakeholders on the implications of technical research findings.
  • Articulate research processes and findings through formal reports, presentations, and technical discussions.

What we're looking for

  • BS in Computer Science or related quantitative discipline with relevant professional experience.
  • MS in Computer Science or related quantitative discipline with relevant professional experience.
  • PhD in Computer Science or related quantitative discipline with relevant professional experience.
  • Deep technical knowledge of and experience with fundamental Internet protocols and functionality.
  • Systems-level programming experience.
  • Strong experience with UNIX/Linux.
  • Familiarity with current hardware and software vulnerabilities and mitigations.
  • Security clearance.
