TL;DR · Product Management Intern

As a Product Management Intern 2027, you will join the IBM Quantum Product team to help build a first-class developer experience for applied researchers using quantum computing services. You will identify unmet customer needs by performing quantitative analysis on usage data and qualitative research through user interviews and support tickets. Your daily responsibilities include scoping problem impacts, recommending roadmap features based on technical constraints, and iterating on designs for APIs, SDK interfaces, and documentation. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define release criteria and performance benchmarks. The role requires technical fluency in the quantum application stack, including circuit running and error mitigation. Key skills include SQL, Python, and experience synthesizing client feedback to translate complex research requirements into functional software solutions within the quantum computing domain.

What you'll do

  • Identify unmet needs of customers including computational chemists, researchers, and enterprise R&D teams.
  • Analyze usage data and conduct user interviews to scope the impact of technical problems.
  • Recommend features and experiences for the product roadmap based on customer value and technical constraints.
  • Iterate on designs for APIs, SDK interfaces, workflow templates, and documentation with engineering teams.
  • Define release criteria including performance benchmarks, reliability thresholds, and documentation readiness.
  • Build technical knowledge of the quantum application stack to translate customer needs into technical requirements.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM area.
  • Master's Degree (preferred).
  • Experience collecting, segmenting, and synthesizing user and client feedback.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to navigate ambiguous business questions and deliver insights.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment with technical and business stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Previous internship or work experience in product management, product design, software engineering, consulting, or at a startup (preferred).
  • Technical fluency in computer science, engineering, or data science with SQL or Python skills (preferred).
