TL;DR · Principal Quantum Measurement Engineer

The Principal Quantum Measurement Engineer will lead measurement strategy for quantum materials and devices at Microsoft Quantum, shaping experimental direction and defining new characterization capabilities. This role involves broad technical ownership and cross-disciplinary influence, driving large-scale experimental campaigns and translating data into actionable insights for qubit performance and system scalability. The ideal candidate has a PhD in Physics or Electrical Engineering with extensive experience in cryogenic electrical measurements, data acquisition, and analysis using Python or MATLAB. They will develop novel measurement techniques, collaborate across materials science, nanofabrication, theory, and device design teams, and leverage AI/ML to enhance experiment throughput and reproducibility. Experience with topological qubits and quantum characterization is preferred, as is a track record of technical innovation and leadership in multi-qubit experiments.

What you'll do

  • Define and lead cryogenic electrical characterization of quantum materials and devices.
  • Develop novel measurement techniques for topological qubit systems.
  • Drive large-scale experimental campaigns with data acquisition and analysis.
  • Translate experimental data into actionable insights for material selection and design.
  • Provide technical leadership for pathfinding devices in next-generation architectures.

What we're looking for

  • Doctorate in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Extensive experience in experimental quantum systems and cryogenic electrical measurements.
  • Proficiency in data acquisition and analysis using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex experimental efforts and translate results into actionable insights.
  • Strong collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams including materials science and nanofabrication.
  • Experience with topological, spin, or superconducting qubits and quantum characterization techniques.
