The Principal Chief Architect is a dual-mandate leadership role within the CenterWell IT team that unifies product strategy and solution architecture across four core business segments: Pharmacy, Primary Care Organization, Home Solutions, and Humana Military. This individual contributor serves as the connective tissue between business vision and technical execution by owning cross-segment roadmaps and authoring architectural blueprints. Key responsibilities include defining integration standards, managing product backlogs, and leading governance reviews to ensure interoperable health solutions. The role requires expertise in Azure services, Snowflake or Databricks platforms, and microservices patterns using FHIR R4 and HL7 standards. Additionally, the candidate will integrate agentic AI capabilities, including LLM orchestration and RAG patterns, to solve complex problems in pharmacy benefit management, clinical workflows, and military health data integration within highly regulated healthcare environments.
Define and own a unified cross-segment product roadmap that balances specific business priorities against shared platform investments.
Establish and maintain reference architectures, design patterns, and integration standards across all four business segments.
Manage top-level product backlogs by decomposing initiatives into delivery-ready user stories with clear acceptance criteria and non-functional requirements.
Define integration contracts, API standards, and data boundaries for cross-segment flows involving pharmacy, clinical, home health, and military domains.
Lead architecture checkpoints and represent the combined product and architecture perspective in enterprise governance forums.
Identify opportunities for component reuse and build business cases for platform consolidation to reduce technical debt.
Serve as the primary liaison between segment leaders, engineering teams, security, and the enterprise IT organization.
Integrate AI/ML capabilities into product strategy, including agent orchestration and LLM integration patterns for healthcare workflows.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
10+ years of progressive IT experience in product management, solution architecture, or both.
5+ years of solution architecture or senior product ownership experience within healthcare IT.
Proven track record managing cross-functional product backlogs and roadmaps across multiple business lines simultaneously.
Hands-on experience with Azure services, Snowflake/Databricks data platforms, and microservices patterns.
Deep competency in API design, event-driven architecture, and FHIR R4/HL7 interoperability standards.
Proficiency in agile and SAFe delivery models including backlog management and PI planning.
Experience incorporating AI/ML capabilities into product strategy and architectural design (preferred).
