You will evaluate AMD EPYC versus Intel Xeon and Arm platforms to determine how CPU behavior, memory hierarchy, software tuning, and platform economics impact competitive outcomes. Your daily responsibilities include defining workload taxonomies, developing rigorous methods for throughput and latency metrics, and performing deep-dive analysis using profiling tools and hardware performance counters to identify bottlenecks like NUMA placement or lock contention. You will tune full software stacks including Java, JVM, and various relational databases while creating technical reports on performance-per-watt and TCO drivers. The role requires expertise in Linux system administration, scripting, and analyzing complex systems involving virtualization, analytics engines, and large-scale server applications to inform future architecture decisions.

What you'll do

  • Define and maintain a taxonomy of enterprise workloads including databases, Java, analytics, and virtualization.
  • Develop rigorous testing methods for throughput, latency, scaling behavior, and service-level objectives.
  • Analyze AMD versus Intel performance across core configuration, frequency, power, memory, and acceleration features.
  • Tune the full software stack including compilers, JVMs, kernels, and libraries to ensure realistic comparisons.
  • Use profiling tools and hardware counters to diagnose CPU stalls, memory behavior, and software bottlenecks.
  • Measure performance-per-watt and total cost of ownership (TCO) drivers like licensing and density.
  • Translate technical bottleneck evidence into architecture assumptions for the forecasting and design teams.
  • Create deep-dive technical reports and executive content highlighting lead areas, risks, and mitigations.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Extensive hands-on performance engineering experience with enterprise or server applications at scale (preferred).
  • Experience with relational/distributed databases, Java/JVM, analytics engines, virtualization, or hypervisors (preferred).
  • Ability to tune full software stacks and distinguish CPU limitations from storage, network, runtime, and configuration artifacts (preferred).
  • Strong Linux and system administration skills, including scripting and repeatable environment setup (preferred).
  • Experience with profiling tools, hardware performance counters, NUMA analysis, and system-level tuning (preferred).
  • Clear technical writing and presentation skills with high standards for documentation and reproducibility (preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with Intel Xeon and AMD EPYC platforms, Arm architectures, or industry benchmark suites (preferred).
