TL;DR · Principal Engineer, Data Platforms (Architecture & Ingestion)

Principal Engineer, Data Platforms (Architecture & Ingestion) serves as the senior technical authority responsible for the architecture, engineering, governance, and evolution of the Unified Ingestion Platform and Federated Data Lake. This role focuses on building a scalable, cloud-native data platform to process hundreds of terabytes daily across Azure, AWS, and GCP environments. The engineer will lead a multi-year transformation to consolidate fragmented observability, security, and operational telemetry into a unified ecosystem. Key responsibilities include managing the Databricks platform strategy, implementing Infrastructure-as-Code and Policy-as-Code, and establishing FinOps strategies. Technical requirements include expertise in Databricks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Apache Spark, Kafka, Event Hub, Kinesis, Pub/Sub, NiFi, and Cribl. The role addresses the technical challenge of creating a secure, high-volume ingestion infrastructure to support advanced analytics, AI/ML workloads, and consistent multi-cloud operations.

What you'll do

  • Define and execute the multi-year roadmap for the Unified Ingestion Platform and Federated Data Lake.
  • Architect high-volume data ingestion systems capable of processing hundreds of terabytes daily across Azure, AWS, and GCP.
  • Own the enterprise Databricks platform strategy including workspace design, security controls, and metadata management.
  • Implement Infrastructure-as-Code and Policy-as-Code to automate provisioning and ensure standardized platform operations.
  • Establish enterprise standards for data governance, lineage, and compliance with OpenTelemetry and OCSF frameworks.
  • Develop FinOps strategies to manage cost allocation, resource optimization, and capacity planning.
  • Serve as the primary technical authority and escalation point for engineering, security, and infrastructure teams.
  • Mentor engineers while driving the adoption of cloud-native principles and advanced AI/ML capabilities.

What we're looking for

  • 10+ years of experience architecting, building, and operating enterprise-scale cloud data platforms, data lakes, distributed systems, and large-scale data ingestion ecosystems.
  • 8+ years of experience designing and administering Databricks platforms, including Apache Spark, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and governance frameworks.
  • 8+ years of experience implementing Infrastructure-as-Code, platform automation, CI/CD pipelines, and Policy-as-Code controls using tools like Terraform or GitHub Actions.
  • 7+ years of experience designing and operating high-scale streaming and telemetry ingestion architectures processing more than 100 TB per day.
  • 5+ years of experience in a Principal Engineer or Lead Architect role driving multi-cloud architecture across Azure, AWS, and GCP.
  • Experience building data platforms or observability systems in highly regulated environments (preferred).
  • Expertise with Unity Catalog, Delta Sharing, metadata services, and FinOps disciplines (preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or equivalent work experience (high school diploma plus 4 years of relevant experience).
