The Principal AI Performance Architect joins the Thermal, Power, Performance, and Acoustics team within the Client Product Group. In this role, you will build forward-looking performance views for client PC portfolios by forecasting platform targets, competitive shifts, and workload bottlenecks before product definition locks. You will lead workload characterization, model bottlenecks for preconcept platforms, and translate forecasts into architecture decisions regarding power efficiency, thermals, acoustics, and battery life. Key responsibilities include owning judgment-based decisions on architecture trade-offs and negotiating with partners. You will utilize AI tools for benchmarking and analysis while leveraging expertise in x86 system architecture, silicon vendors, control frameworks, and operating systems. Technical skills include ETW/WPA trace analysis, OS scheduling, and implementing machine-learning-based performance policies to solve complex hardware and firmware performance issues.
Define performance concepts and targets for next-generation platforms within assigned lines of business.
Lead workload characterization and bottleneck modeling for preconcept platforms using AI tools.
Translate performance forecasts into architecture decisions regarding power, thermals, acoustics, and battery life.
Negotiate performance requirements with silicon, OS, and ODM partners.
Support cross-functional reviews with engineering, product, and marketing teams.
Triage and resolve critical performance escalations across hardware, firmware, OS, and application layers.
What we're looking for
Strong expertise in x86 system architecture and performance, power, thermal, and acoustic trade-offs.
Ability to forecast performance trends and make data-based trade-off decisions for a platform family.
Experience triaging performance bottlenecks across hardware, firmware, OS, and application layers.
Experience working with silicon vendors, control frameworks, and operating systems.
Demonstrated use of AI-driven tools to expand analysis scope and team productivity.
Ability to present to peers, cross-functional teams, and director-level leaders with a customer-first mindset.
Typically requires 8+ years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; 6+ years with a Master's; 3+ years with a PhD; or equivalent.
BS in Computer Engineering or a related field (preferred); experience with ML-based performance policies, OS scheduling, and ETW/WPA trace analysis (preferred).
