Data and ML Director

What you'll do

• Lead all aspects of engineering for the Places Data team.
• Combine AI/ML techniques with software engineering to solve complex map data challenges.
• Architect a sophisticated ML-centric data platform for processing large-scale datasets.
• Develop models ranging from large-scale data center solutions to lightweight edge solutions.
• Process and contextualize unstructured data from text to 3D imagery using Computer Vision and Generative AI.
• Define goals and shape product roadmaps in collaboration with partner and product teams.
• Provide technical and career mentorship to the engineering team.
• Communicate technical complexities clearly to engineering partners, product management, and executives.

What we're looking for

• 15+ years of experience leading engineering teams applying sophisticated statistical and ML methods to large, complex datasets.
• Experience in Algorithms, Architecture, AI, Data Mining, Deep Neural Networks, Distributed Systems, Information Retrieval, or Machine Learning.
• Experience in Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, and Unstructured Web Data.
• Strong foundational understanding of mathematics behind modern machine learning, including linear algebra and statistics.
• Familiarity with databases, SQL, and scripting languages.
• Proven ability to translate requirements from design to implementation and build/inspire teams to achieve results.
• Master's degree or equivalent experience in AI, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience in Maps Data, large-scale ML model deployment, or publishing research papers in leading AI/ML journals (preferred).
