TL;DR · Systems Software Engineering Intern

NVIDIA 2027 Internships: Systems Software Engineering interns join the Systems Software team to work on projects with measurable business impact over a twelve-week period. Candidates will design and develop integrated and discrete GPU system software components, including runtimes and math libraries focused on power and performance; build tools and infrastructure for security scaling across large codebases; or develop firmware for embedded microcontrollers within GPUs. The role involves developing graphics drivers for OpenGL and Vulkan, as well as working on deep-learning compiler backend optimizations. Required skills include proficiency in C, C++, CUDA, x86, ARM CPU, and Linux Kernel Development. Technical competencies involve Operating Systems, Multithreaded Debugging, Computer Networking, Data Structures, Algorithms, and Computer Architecture. Candidates may also utilize tools like CLANG, LLVM, gcc, XLA, TVM, or Halide to solve complex hardware and software integration challenges.

What you'll do

  • Design and develop integrated and discrete GPU system software components like runtimes and math libraries.
  • Create architecture and design specifications focused on optimizing power and performance for GPU systems.
  • Develop secure solutions across the software stack, ranging from supercomputers to microcontrollers.
  • Build tools and infrastructure to scale security efforts across large codebases.
  • Design and implement graphics drivers and platform support for OpenGL, OpenGL ES, and Vulkan.
  • Develop firmware for embedded microcontrollers within GPUs to improve system robustness and performance.
  • Investigate optimization opportunities within compiler backends to resolve hardware and application issues.
  • Develop tools and infrastructure to improve front-end design and verification processes for firmware.

What we're looking for

  • Must be actively enrolled in a university pursuing a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Resume must clearly indicate the anticipated graduation date (month and year).
  • Relevant experience may include Operating Systems, Data Structures & Algorithms, and Computer Networking.
  • Experience with low-level programming and systems such as Linux Kernel Development, RTOS, and Embedded Systems is applicable.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, C++17, CUDA, x86, Perl, ARM CPU, GPU, or Embedded C may be required depending on the specific role.
  • Knowledge of hardware fundamentals like Microprocessor Fundamentals (Caches, Buses, Memory Controllers, DMA) and Computer Architecture is applicable.
  • Experience with Graphics (2D, 3D, Render, Shaders), Compiler Development, or Firmware & Embedded Software may be required.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Bash/Shell Scripting, Open Source Tools (CLANG, LLVM, gcc), or Testing Production/Automation Tools (XLA, TVM, Halide) is applicable.
