Modem System Test Engineer - Wireless Technologies and Ecosystems joins the Wireless Technologies and Eco-Systems organization to drive innovation in cellular technologies. The role involves developing advanced system evaluation and debugging capabilities, performing code and architecture reviews, and collaborating with firmware, platform architecture, and RF hardware teams to ensure 3GPP conformance. Key responsibilities include designing and executing system-level test plans for 5G NR (FR1 & FR2/mmWave), analyzing protocol traces and air-interface captures, and building scalable test automation using machine learning and data-driven methods. The position requires expertise in Python, PyTorch, or TensorFlow to automate anomaly detection and log parsing. Candidates must possess deep knowledge of the 3GPP LTE and 5G NR stacks across PHY, MAC, RLC, PDCP, SDAP, RRC, and NAS layers while utilizing commercial test equipment and software-defined radio platforms.
Develop and execute system-level test plans for 5G NR (FR1 & FR2/mmWave) across protocol control and user planes.
Analyze protocol traces, air-interface captures, and diagnostic logs to debug complex failure modes and throughput bottlenecks.
Build scalable test automation using machine learning and data-driven methods for anomaly detection and failure triage.
Partner with firmware, architecture, and RF teams to reproduce issues and validate bug fixes for 3GPP conformance.
Develop internal test infrastructure, test cases, and evaluation platforms using commercial equipment and software-defined radio.
Perform code and architecture reviews to identify opportunities for baseband optimizations and system improvements.
Monitor and ensure robust performance across PHY, RF, SIM, NAS, AS, IP, TCP/UDP, and iOS interfaces.
What we're looking for
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field.
Deep understanding of 3GPP LTE and 5G NR specifications across the protocol stack and end-to-end cellular architecture.
Hands-on experience implementing, debugging, or validating cellular protocol stacks or physical-layer modules using commercial equipment or open-source testbeds.
Strong proficiency in Python for test automation, data processing, and log parsing.
Solid grasp of digital communication principles, modulation, OFDM, and channel coding schemes.
Experience applying machine learning frameworks to wireless communications problems (preferred).
Familiarity with 3GPP standardization workflows or research in beyond-5G/6G architectures (preferred).
Exposure to wireless test equipment or RF interface protocols (preferred).
