TL;DR · Memory Systems Design Engineer Client and Graphics Platform Engineering in Austin, Texas | Advanced Micro Devices, Inc

Join our client and graphics platform engineering team in Austin as a senior memory systems design engineer, where you will lead the qualification and delivery of cutting-edge memory technologies like LPDDR5x/6, DDR5, and GDDR6/7 for AMD’s next-generation computing products. Your day-to-day responsibilities include providing post-silicon support for memory interfaces, leading pre-silicon engagements with test plan development and simulation reviews, driving cross-functional teams to enable new product bring-up from first silicon through initial production, and conducting system-level debug and root cause analysis. Ideal candidates have deep knowledge of DRAM architecture, high-speed I/O design experience, familiarity with industry-standard protocols, and hands-on lab skills using equipment like oscilloscopes and logic analyzers. This role requires expertise in scripting languages such as Python and a strong understanding of computer hardware and software architectures.

What you'll do

  • Lead pre-silicon engagement by preparing test plans and reviewing simulation results for memory interface IP.
  • Drive system-level debug and root cause analysis to identify issues across hardware and software blocks.
  • Support new product bring-up from initial silicon lab testing through early production stages.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable, optimize, and characterize features in memory systems.
  • Provide post-silicon support for DDR/LPDDR/GDDR memory interfaces, including debugging and validation.

What we're looking for

  • Deep knowledge of DRAM, memory controller, and PHY architecture concepts
  • Experience with high-speed I/O design including Tx/Rx, PLL/DLL, clocking, equalization techniques
  • Hands-on debug experience with GPU/APU motherboards, memory interfaces, bus logic
  • Familiarity with industry-standard high-speed memory IO protocols and test methodologies
  • Laboratory experience using equipment like oscilloscopes, signal generators, BERT, logic analyzers
  • Programming skills in scripting languages such as Ruby/Python/Perl
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical or computer engineering
