Join Microsoft's Discovery and Quantum division as a Senior Member of Technical Staff for Robotics Software Systems, responsible for ensuring the reliability and observability of their integrated robotics platform. You will design and build monitoring infrastructure across Azure-hosted cloud services and on-robot edge runtimes, define incident response protocols, and develop secure communication systems between cloud and edge devices. This role requires expertise in languages like C++, Python, and experience with Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, and Azure-specific tools such as IoT Hub and AKS. Ideal candidates have a background in distributed systems, fleet management at scale, and security engineering for IoT/edge environments, particularly within high-stakes industries where software reliability is paramount.

What you'll do

  • Design and build observability infrastructure for Microsoft's robotics platform across cloud and edge environments.
  • Define and implement incident response protocols including SLIs/SLOs, automated detection, and remediation strategies.
  • Engineer deployment pipelines ensuring safe rollouts and canary deployments for robotic software updates.
  • Develop secure communication infrastructure for cloud-to-edge interactions in robotic systems.
  • Instrument new capabilities with production-quality logging and metrics to ensure operational readiness from the start.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field and 8+ years of technical experience.
  • Master's Degree in a relevant field and 6+ years of hands-on production system operation.
  • Proficiency in systems-level languages (C++, Rust) and scripting languages (Python, Bash).
  • Experience with distributed systems, cloud-native services, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Expertise in defining SLIs/SLOs, building alerting systems, and leading incident response.
  • Knowledge of security engineering for IoT/edge systems including secure boot and encrypted channels.
  • Familiarity with Azure-specific services and hybrid cloud-edge architectures.
