TL;DR · Manufacturing Engineer, Chamber and Nozzle

Manufacturing Engineer, Chamber and Nozzle (Raptor) joins a team focused on producing rocket engine components featuring complex geometries like regenerative cooling channels and thin-walled high-temperature alloys. This role involves designing, implementing, and scaling CNC machining processes to improve production throughput, dimensional accuracy, and cycle times for combustion chambers and nozzles. The engineer will develop CAM programs, implement closed-loop process controls with real-time monitoring of cutting forces and spindle load, and build data pipelines for predictive analytics. Key technical requirements include proficiency in Python, G-code, multi-axis milling, and advanced CAM software. The role also involves designing custom workholding fixtures and managing CNC software infrastructure including post-processors and digital twins. This position addresses the challenge of manufacturing high-performance hardware that must withstand extreme thermal and pressure cycles across hundreds of reuse cycles for rocket propulsion systems.

What you'll do

  • Develop and improve CNC machining processes for Raptor combustion chambers and nozzles including multi-axis milling and finishing.
  • Optimize CNC programs, tool paths, and machining strategies using advanced CAM software and offline programming.
  • Implement closed-loop CNC process control by monitoring real-time data like cutting forces, vibration, and tool wear.
  • Integrate in-process metrology such as touch probing and laser scanning for automated quality verification.
  • Build data pipelines to capture high-resolution telemetry for statistical process control and predictive analytics.
  • Design custom fixtures and workholding systems to support the machining of large, thin-walled hardware.
  • Manage CNC software infrastructure including post-processors, macros, and digital twin integration.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cycle times and increase first-pass yield for high-volume production.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience with CNC machining and programming for metallic components.
  • Proficiency in Python, CAM software, G-code, and CNC controllers.
  • Experience with multi-axis CNC processes, high-speed machining, and precision finishing of high-performance alloys.
  • Expertise in design for manufacturability (DFM) and experience with rocket engine chambers or regeneratively cooled hardware.
  • Knowledge of statistical process control, GD&T, and metrology techniques like CMM or laser scanning.
  • Ability to stand for long durations and work directly with hardware on the production floor.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible for required export control authorizations.
