The Lead Software Engineer (AI Platform) - Vice President joins the Global Technology Applied Research center to engineer, operate, and evolve shared platforms for AI research. This role involves owning the architecture and technical roadmap for cloud and compute foundations, specifically managing CPU/GPU infrastructure, workload scheduling, storage, and networking. You will build reproducible, self-service research environments using standardized container images, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD pipelines. Key responsibilities include translating requirements for LLM, agentic AI, and model evaluation into dependable platform capabilities while assessing new accelerators and developer tooling. Required skills include Python, shell scripting, Linux systems, and experience with Terraform or CloudFormation. The work focuses on enabling researchers to develop and mature AI solutions within secure, scalable, and firm-approved environments for downstream integration.
Own the architecture, technical roadmap, and day-to-day engineering of the AI research platform.
Design and operate secure, scalable cloud and CPU/GPU infrastructure including clusters, storage, and networking.
Build reproducible, self-service research environments using container images, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD pipelines.
Translate researcher requirements for LLMs and agentic AI into dependable platform capabilities and service interfaces.
Assess and onboard new AI infrastructure technologies and cloud services through practical benchmarks and pilots.
Maintain platform reliability through observability, incident response, patching, and lifecycle management.
Manage access, data controls, and risk evidence to ensure operational readiness in a regulated environment.
What we're looking for
Master's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, information systems, or a related technical field.
At least 4 years of relevant industry experience building or operating cloud, platform, or infrastructure systems.
Hands-on experience operating production-grade environments, including EC2, networking, storage, monitoring, and cost management.
Strong knowledge of Linux systems, containers, networking, storage, and distributed systems with experience in orchestration or workload-scheduling.
Experience with infrastructure-as-code and delivery automation using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation, configuration management, and CI/CD pipelines.
Proficiency in Python and shell scripting with sound software engineering practices for building maintainable automation, services, and platform integrations.
Working knowledge of AI/ML development workflows and the ability to translate research requirements into platform designs.
Experience with Kubernetes, GPU software stacks, Slurm, Ray, or delivering infrastructure in a regulated enterprise (preferred).
