Laboratory Technician II - Mellon College of Science - Physics Department

What you'll do

• Design and maintain laboratory infrastructure for the CMS High-Granularity Calorimeter upgrade.
• Perform precision wirebonding on silicon sensor modules to high-energy physics standards.
• Manufacture and assemble HGCal silicon detector modules, ensuring quality testing compliance.
• Maintain inventory of materials needed for module fabrication and ensure timely reordering.
• Train students and researchers in safe laboratory equipment use and processes.
• Provide ongoing technical support and troubleshooting for lab systems post-development.
• Conduct routine tests and document results for analysis in research activities.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor’s degree in physics or related field required.
• At least one year of research lab experience, including data entry and record management.
• Experience with precious electronics assembly and wirebonding techniques.
• Ability to design, develop, and maintain critical laboratory infrastructure for high-energy physics projects.
• Proficiency in training others on the safe use of laboratory equipment and processes.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment background check required.
