JOB TITLE: Head of Detection and Response The Head of Detection and Response will serve as the founding leader for the newly forming Detection and Response team at Plaid. This role involves standing up the team from scratch, defining operational standards, and managing a specialized technical team of analysts and engineers. Key responsibilities include leading day-to-day incident response, overseeing Fraud Operations and Red Teaming, and building critical security infrastructure at scale. The role requires deep expertise in SIEMs, EDR, and SOC operations to protect financial infrastructure. This position addresses the technical challenge of detecting and responding to suspicious activity across the company to ensure long-term security stability and risk reduction.

What you'll do

  • Build and establish Plaid’s Detection and Response team from the ground up.
  • Lead day-to-day incident response operations and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Manage and mentor a technical team of security analysts and engineers.
  • Oversee the development of detection infrastructure, AI triage, and investigation tooling.
  • Direct Fraud Operations and Red Team activities to ensure a proactive security posture.
  • Communicate security risks and maturity gains to the CISO and other senior leadership.
  • Define and track key metrics to demonstrate the effectiveness of the D&R program.

What we're looking for

  • 8-14 years of overall detection and response or security engineering experience.
  • Strong technical background in security or detection engineering, including SIEMs, EDR, and SOC operations.
  • Experience managing a team of security analysts and engineers in an operational, platform, or infrastructure context.
  • Ability to build cross-functional relationships and drive security maturity through influence.
  • High-empathy communication skills to represent technical work to Staff-level leadership.
  • Strong AI-first skillset applicable to security operations.
  • Experience at a fintech or high-technology organization adjacent to payments/finance (preferred).
  • Background in fraud investigation or software engineering (preferred).
