What you'll do

  • Lead the technology strategy, architecture, and engineering delivery for USAA's telematics ecosystem.
  • Transform driving behavior, vehicle data, and sensor information into actionable insights for pricing, claims, and risk segmentation.
  • Manage a large organization of approximately 45 employees and 50 contractor resources.
  • Advance cloud-native technologies, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to unlock new business value from telematics data.
  • Develop multi-year business and technology roadmaps in partnership with senior leadership across the organization.
  • Oversee the assessment of technical fitness, costs, and risks for the application portfolio.
  • Manage vendor relationships and oversee contract performance to ensure cost-effective service delivery.
  • Ensure all development activities comply with SDLC standards, security protocols, and corporate risk policies.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, I.S., or related field; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.
  • 10 years of experience in general IT management competencies.
  • 4 years of people leadership experience building, managing, and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong technical background in web-based application architecture, system/database architecture, security integration, and object-oriented languages.
  • Experience in all stages of the SDLC including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, and implementation.
  • Experience in vendor contract management and managing distributed development teams.
  • Financial acumen involving budgets, forecasting, and executing technology support function budgets.
  • Understanding of industry frameworks (e.g., COBIT, ITIL, SAFe) and legislative/regulatory compliance requirements.
  • 5+ years of experience in behavior and usage-based insurance technology or telematics programs (preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience modernizing legacy insurance systems to public cloud platforms (preferred).
  • Experience leading technical strategy for telematics solutions at top insurance carriers (preferred).
