The Engineer, Technology I joins the Business Technology Solutions Information Research organization within the DELOS team. This role focuses on building reliable data foundations to advance analytics, reporting, knowledge graph capabilities, and machine learning across R&D. You will independently design and develop data pipelines, collect, integrate, normalize, and model research data from databases, applications, and APIs. Key responsibilities include implementing quality checks, organizing metadata, and preparing curated assets for retrieval-augmented generation and knowledge discovery. You will utilize SQL, Python, and ETL/ELT patterns, while leveraging workflow orchestration tools like Airflow. The work involves transforming scientific and business requirements into dependable data solutions, ensuring all assets adhere to established architecture, engineering patterns, and governance standards within a regulated research environment.
Design and develop data pipelines to collect, integrate, normalize, and model data from various sources.
Clean, standardize, and structure data for downstream analytics, machine learning, and knowledge graph publication.
Implement data quality checks and maintain technical documentation including metadata, lineage, and transformations.
Translate scientific and business requirements into dependable data solutions for R&D stakeholders.
Monitor pipeline performance and resource use while troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
Apply corporate governance standards, data security protocols, and GxP compliance requirements to all data assets.
Communicate project objectives, progress, risks, and technical issues to scientific and business partners.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Data Engineering, Computer Science, Informatics, Life Sciences, or a related field plus 4 years of experience.
Master’s Degree plus 2 years of experience.
Practical experience developing data pipelines or data solutions using SQL, Python, and ETL/ELT patterns.
Knowledge of workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow.
Theoretical and practical knowledge of data integration, data modeling, data storage, and modern data platforms.
Experience cleaning, standardizing, transforming, and documenting data for analytics or scientific use with data quality checks.
Strong written and oral English communication skills to explain technical work to scientific, business, and technical partners.
Pharmaceutical, healthcare, or life sciences industry experience (preferred).
