Distributed Systems Engineer 6, Ad Eventing

What you'll do

• Own the technical direction of the Ad Eventing team, including architecture reviews, capacity planning, and incident leadership.
• Architect and evolve the end-to-end ad event pipeline to handle billions of daily events under strict latency constraints.
• Scale event ingestion infrastructure to ensure high availability and exactly-once processing semantics.
• Design and implement robust deduplication and validation systems to ensure event accuracy across network failures.
• Build and operate stream processing pipelines using technologies like Kafka or Flink for real-time signals.
• Define and maintain authoritative event schemas and data contracts for billing, reporting, and ML pipelines.
• Drive operational excellence through deployment automation, observability, and reliability engineering across the eventing stack.
• Develop reusable components and clean interfaces to promote modularization and platform-thinking across the organization.

What we're looking for

• 10+ years of experience building distributed systems and backend services at large scale.
• 3+ years of experience in the ads domain.
• Deep experience with high-throughput event ingestion and stream processing using Kafka, Flink, Spark Streaming, or equivalent.
• Experience building and operating event deduplication, validation, and attribution systems in ads or high-stakes data environments.
• Strong understanding of exactly-once and at-least-once delivery semantics, idempotency patterns, and associated tradeoffs.
• Experience designing event schemas and data contracts for multiple downstream consumers with varying latency and consistency requirements.
• Familiarity with ad measurement concepts including impression tracking, viewability, click attribution, completion rates, and IAB standards.
• Track record of technical leadership across multiple teams, setting architectural direction and influencing cross-functional roadmaps.
