TL;DR · Computational Imaging Engineer

The Computational Imaging Engineer joins the SPECS team to develop image signal processing pipelines for next-generation computational imaging platforms. This role involves collaborating across optics, sensors, computer vision, and compute teams to influence architectural decisions and manage critical trade-offs. The engineer will establish test methodologies, conduct root cause analyses for sensor performance issues, and implement corrective actions. Key responsibilities include developing and optimizing ISP and machine learning algorithms for camera products. Required skills include proficiency in C++, MATLAB, or Python, along with experience in data analysis and leveraging AI models to accelerate workflows. The role focuses on the technical challenges of advanced eyewear and wearable technology, specifically addressing requirements for depth mapping, biometric sensing, and non-traditional sensors like SPADs, event sensors, and neuromorphic sensors within highly constrained hardware environments.

What you'll do

  • Develop image signal processing (ISP) pipelines for next-generation computational imaging platforms.
  • Influence key architectural decisions and drive consensus on critical technical trade-offs.
  • Create test methodologies and characterization plans to evaluate camera ISP performance.
  • Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for sensor performance issues.
  • Optimize machine learning algorithms and software workflows for mobile and wearable camera products.
  • Manage the development of end-to-end ISP pipelines for edge and distributed compute platforms.
  • Design algorithms for pixel and sensor-level logic to improve image quality and depth mapping.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in optics, physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in computational imaging for computer vision applications.
  • Experience with computational imaging, computer vision, and machine learning for image processing.
  • Experience developing and optimizing ISP and machine learning algorithms for camera products.
  • Experience with non-traditional image sensors including single photon detectors, event sensors, or neuromorphic sensors.
  • Proficiency in software development and data analysis using languages such as C++, MATLAB, or Python.
  • Master’s or PhD degree in optics, physics, electrical engineering, or computer science (preferred).
  • Experience building camera systems for AR/VR, wearables, or mobile platforms (preferred).
