TL;DR · Camera Architect

The Apple Camera Architecture team is seeking a senior Camera Architect to lead the development of future camera hardware requirements for various products. This role involves collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware, software, and algorithms groups, to ensure that camera systems meet stringent performance and feature goals from concept through validation. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting detailed system analysis, developing design options based on requirements, coordinating optical simulations, and validating image quality metrics using computer vision techniques. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in physics, engineering, or imaging science, with expertise in optics, camera calibration, and computer vision. Experience in defining camera specifications through user studies and data analysis is preferred, as well as the ability to communicate effectively at leadership levels to influence product decisions.

What you'll do

  • Develop camera design options based on system requirements and constraints.
  • Perform optical and camera simulations to quantify proposals and designs.
  • Create image quality metrics and validate them using computer vision algorithms.
  • Allocate requirements to sub-components, considering calibration and reliability factors.
  • Support the design and validation process for cameras and systems.
  • Conduct failure analysis and triage during the development phase.

What we're looking for

  • BS in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or Imaging Science with 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with optics, camera calibration, computer vision, image quality metrics, sensor fundamentals, and processing pipeline.
  • Experience developing camera design options based on system requirements and constraints.
  • Ability to perform optical and camera simulations for proposal quantification.
  • Develop and validate image quality metrics using computer vision algorithms and user studies.
