TL;DR · Camera Architect

The Apple Camera Architecture team is seeking a senior Camera Architect to lead the development of future camera hardware requirements for various products. This role involves collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including camera HW, product HW, algorithm, and SW teams, to ensure that highly optimized camera hardware solutions are seamlessly integrated with state-of-the-art software. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing design options based on system requirements, performing optical simulations, validating image quality metrics through computer vision algorithms, and allocating requirements while considering calibration and reliability factors. The ideal candidate should have a BS in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or Imaging Science, along with at least three years of relevant experience, and familiarity with camera technologies such as optics, camera calibration, and image processing pipeline. Experience in defining camera metrics through product goals and user studies is preferred.

What you'll do

  • Develop camera design options based on system requirements and constraints.
  • Perform optical and camera simulations to quantify proposals and designs.
  • Allocate image quality metrics and validate them using computer vision algorithms.
  • Collaborate on factory test setups for calibration, hardware tolerances, and reliability.
  • Support the validation process of camera and system designs through failure analysis.

What we're looking for

  • BS in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or Imaging Science with 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with optics, camera calibration, computer vision, image quality metrics, sensor fundamentals, and processing pipeline.
  • Experience developing and validating imaging system requirements and performance goals.
  • Ability to perform optical and camera simulations for design validation.
  • Strong communication skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams.
