The Avionics Test Engineer (Starship) joins the Components Test team to develop manufacturing processes and test systems for advanced spacecraft avionics. This role involves designing and building infrastructure from the ground up to validate flight components, including inertial measurement units, network hardware, power distribution, and antennas. You will design custom test solutions, select commercial-off-the-shelf hardware, and develop custom PCBAs to measure signals and apply flight-like loads. Key responsibilities include writing automation software in Python to interact with test equipment and production documentation. You must utilize skills in MATLAB, Embedded C/C++, and tools like oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and DAQs. The work focuses on root-causing test anomalies and ensuring reliability in extreme environments through environmental testing methods like HALT, HASS, vibration, shock, thermal, TVAC, and EMI/EMC.
Design, develop, and maintain custom test solutions for flight hardware including electronics, optics, and RF components.
Select commercial-off-the-shelf hardware and design custom PCBAs to measure signals and apply flight-like loads.
Write Python automation software to interact with units under test, test equipment, and production documentation.
Root-cause test anomalies and failures during development to implement necessary mitigations.
Create new test systems and infrastructure from the ground up to exercise all possible failure modes.
Provide technical feedback to design and manufacturing engineers to improve product reliability and yield.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or an engineering discipline with an emphasis in electrical engineering and electronics.
1+ years of experience with electronic hardware development or software development.
1+ years of programming experience using Python, MATLAB, or Embedded C/C++.
Experience analyzing circuits and developing functional test plans (preferred).
Experience designing and troubleshooting PCBAs (preferred).
Experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, DAQs and measurement techniques (preferred).
