As an Avionics Test Engineer (Starship) on the Components Test team, you will serve as a hardware expert for flight control devices and mechanisms including inertial measurement units, network hardware, power distribution, antennas, and modulators. You will design and develop custom test systems from the ground up to validate performance in extreme environments. Your daily responsibilities include creating infrastructure for hardware, software, and test sequences to exercise failure modes, as well as designing PCBAs and selecting commercial-off-the-shelf components to measure signals and power units. You will utilize Python, MATLAB, or Embedded C/C++ to write automation software while troubleshooting anomalies. The role requires expertise in electronic hardware development, circuit analysis, and the use of tools like oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators to ensure flight readiness for advanced spacecraft avionics.
Design, develop, and maintain custom test solutions for flight hardware including electronics, optics, RF antennas, and electro-mechanical components.
Select commercial-off-the-shelf hardware and design custom PCBAs to measure signals and power units under test.
Write Python automation software to interact with units under test, instrumentation, and production documentation systems.
Root-cause test anomalies and failures during development to identify issues and implement necessary mitigations.
Develop test sequences to exercise all possible failure modes for flight components.
Provide feedback to design and manufacturing engineers to improve product reliability and yield.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or an engineering discipline with an emphasis on electrical engineering and electronics.
1+ years of experience with electronic hardware development or software development.
1+ years of programming experience using Python, MATLAB, or Embedded C/C++.
Experience analyzing circuits and developing functional test plans (preferred).
Experience designing and troubleshooting PCBAs (preferred).
Experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, DAQs, and measurement techniques (preferred).
Experience with RF test equipment including spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, and signal generators (preferred).
Must be a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, or eligible for required export control authorizations.
