Automation Engineer, General
As an Automation Engineer, you will join the manufacturing team to transform complex hardware designs into high-rate automated production realities for autonomous air, ground, maritime, and sensor systems. You will design, program, commission, and scale greenfield automated workcells, robotics, and advanced controls platforms across a multi-site footprint. Your daily responsibilities include developing PLC, HMI, and SCADA code using Beckhoff TwinCAT, Siemens TIA Portal, or Rockwell/Allen-Bradley platforms with IEC 61131-3 languages and industrial protocols like EtherCAT and Profinet. You will also program and calibrate multi-axis robots from brands like Fanuc, Kuka, and ABB while integrating vision systems and edge devices using Python, C++, C#, or ROS. Additionally, you will create electrical schematics in EPLAN or SolidWorks to ensure compliance with NEC and NFPA 70E standards for defense manufacturing production.
Design and deploy full-lifecycle automated assembly, testing, and material-handling workcells from concept to production.
Develop and optimize PLC, HMI, and SCADA code using industrial platforms like Beckhoff, Siemens, or Rockwell.
Program and calibrate multi-axis industrial and collaborative robots with advanced trajectory planning and vision guidance.
Design electrical schematics, panel layouts, and safety circuits while ensuring compliance with NEC and UL standards.
Integrate custom tooling and vision systems using Python, C++, or C# to connect equipment to MES databases.
Implement Design for Automation (DFA) principles to streamline new product introduction and eliminate production bottlenecks.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
Experience programming and commissioning PLCs, HMIs, and motion control systems using platforms like Beckhoff, Siemens, or Rockwell/Allen-Bradley.
Hands-on experience with industrial or collaborative robotic platforms, including path planning, kinematic modeling, or multi-axis gantry systems.
Proficiency in software development using Python, C++, C#, or ROS/ROS 2.
Proficiency with CAD and modeling tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or EPLAN.
Understanding of industrial fieldbuses, sensor systems, motor sizing, variable frequency drives, and machinery safety protocols.
Ability to design electrical schematics, panel layouts, and safety circuits in compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, and UL508A standards.
Must be eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
