As an Artificial Intelligence and Optimization Engineer, you will join a talented team of engineers to develop mission-critical solutions for the Department of War. You will own the direction of AI/ML algorithms and optimization models while designing decision support capabilities such as forecasting, natural language interfaces, and workflow automation. Your daily responsibilities include building PySpark and Delta Lake pipelines within a medallion architecture, managing feature stores, performing data profiling, and maintaining model bias assessments and explainability documentation. You will utilize Python, scikit-learn, XGBoost, PyTorch, TensorFlow, SQL, and AWS GovCloud tools like SageMaker and Step Functions. The role focuses on solving complex national problems by translating mission requirements into technical specifications while ensuring compliance with government data standards in a high-stakes defense context.
Design and implement AI-enabled decision support capabilities including forecasting, optimization, and automated workflows.
Build and maintain PySpark and Delta Lake pipelines within a medallion architecture.
Implement data pipelines on AWS GovCloud using SageMaker, Step Functions, and Databricks ML Runtime.
Develop feature stores and perform data profiling according to government standards.
Maintain model bias assessments and explainability documentation for all production models.
Implement monitoring frameworks to detect concept drift, data drift, and performance degradation.
Produce monthly model performance reports and technical artifacts in approved formats.
Translate mission requirements from partner agencies into specific model specifications.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or Engineering.
Secret security clearance is required.
5+ years of experience designing, developing, validating, and deploying supervised and unsupervised AI/ML and optimization models in enterprise production environments.
5+ years of experience with Python (scikit-learn, XGBoost, PyTorch, or TensorFlow), PySpark, and SQL.
Experience implementing pipelines on AWS GovCloud using SageMaker, Step Functions, and Databricks ML Runtime.
Experience building and maintaining PySpark and Delta Lake pipelines within a medallion architecture.
Experience with federal or government technology, data, and model standards such as CMMC or RMF.
Knowledge of large language model (LLM) deployment patterns in air-gapped or restricted network environments.
