AIML, Lead Researcher, Foundation Models

What you'll do

• Lead a team of researchers and engineers to develop and advance foundation models for Apple products.
• Define the research vision, roadmap, and success metrics aligned with strategic product priorities.
• Conduct hands-on research on complex deep learning problems and make key technical methodology decisions.
• Own the end-to-end execution of research initiatives from problem formulation to product integration.
• Identify high-impact research opportunities that balance fundamental advances with near-term product applications.
• Mentor team members on research techniques, software engineering practices, and professional career growth.
• Collaborate with hardware and product teams to translate research into customer-facing features.
• Publish research findings in top-tier venues and present work at major industry conferences.

What we're looking for

• Demonstrated success leading technical teams or research groups with evidence of growing talent and delivering results.
• Strong publication record in relevant conferences or a proven track record of applying deep learning techniques to products at scale.
• Expert-level skills in Python and one or more deep learning toolkits such as JAX, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
• PhD in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience demonstrating research leadership and technical depth.
• Ability to clearly articulate complex research concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience with web-scale information retrieval and search systems (preferred).
• Track record building human-like conversation agents and natural language understanding systems (preferred).
• Expertise in multi-modal perception, on-device intelligence, and responsible AI practices (preferred).
