As a Software Development Technical Leader at the SEI, you will provide technical leadership for a critical software-based maintenance and readiness application used by the U.S. Navy, focusing on architecture analysis, software development oversight, risk reduction, and long-term sustainment planning. You will collaborate closely with Naval Program Executive Offices (PEOs), PMOs, contractors, and fleet stakeholders to ensure software solutions meet operational requirements. Your daily tasks include evaluating architectural tradeoffs, developing prototypes in C/C++, analyzing existing source code, and leading customer engagements that inform acquisition decisions. The role requires expertise in C/C++ along with working knowledge of C#, Java, and Python, as well as experience with static analysis tools to enhance software quality and security. Ideal candidates have a background in large-scale Navy acquisition programs and can lead technical teams while engaging credibly with government stakeholders.

What you'll do
Provide technical leadership for software acquisition and sustainment activities in line with DoD guidance.
Advise Navy stakeholders on software design, risks, modernization strategies, and tradeoffs for legacy-dependent systems.
Lead software development efforts from concept through deployment using C/C++ for high-performance applications.
Develop and maintain software architecture artifacts to ensure scalable, maintainable, and resilient solutions.
Analyze existing source code and system interfaces to identify technical debt and sustainment risks.
What we're looking for
BS in Computer Science or related field with 10 years of experience; higher degrees require fewer years.
Proven experience designing complex software architectures for mission-critical systems.
Deep expertise in C and C++ development, including code analysis.
Experience leading technical teams and engaging with government stakeholders.
Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate complex concepts clearly.
Previous experience supporting large-scale Navy acquisition programs.
Willingness to travel up to 25% for work-related activities.
