TL;DR · Staff Software Engineer - WLAN

As a Staff Software Engineer at Qualcomm Atheros, you will join the WLAN HAL-PHY firmware team to drive technical excellence and innovation in next-generation WLAN chipsets. Your daily responsibilities include writing production-quality C/C++ firmware, leading architectural enhancements, and collaborating with cross-functional teams such as chip designers and RF engineers. You will leverage AI coding assistants like Claude Code and GitHub Copilot for firmware generation and code review, while also using MCP server toolchains for register lookup and crash triage. Additionally, you will contribute to the evolution of the team’s AI toolchain by providing feedback on AI-generated artifacts and refining prompt quality. This role requires deep expertise in embedded systems development, proficiency with C/C++, and a strong understanding of WLAN standards like 802.11be.

What you'll do

  • Lead software architecture enhancements and re-architect existing firmware modules for next-generation WLAN platforms.
  • Write and review production-quality low-level firmware in resource-constrained embedded environments.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex WLAN and RF system performance issues using RF test equipment.
  • Develop and optimize offload firmware running on dedicated co-processors, focusing on throughput and latency.
  • Use AI coding assistants daily for firmware generation, diff review, and register access iteration.
  • Leverage MCP server toolchains for crash dump analysis and root cause attribution in complex failures.

What we're looking for

  • Extensive hands-on experience in firmware development for embedded systems.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ programming and production-quality code writing.
  • Experience with AI coding assistants like Claude Code and GitHub Copilot.
  • Strong background in WLAN offload firmware development on co-processors.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and conduct design reviews effectively.
  • Expertise in diagnosing and resolving complex RF system performance issues.
  • Familiarity with MCP server toolchains for crash dump analysis and root cause attribution.
