Staff Software Engineer, Query (Optimization)

What you'll do

• Design and build a world-class query optimization system for distributed databases.
• Research and apply state-of-the-art techniques to inform the design of MongoDB's query systems.
• Provide technical vision and direction by leveraging deep knowledge of product strengths and industry trends.
• Lead architectural planning and execution for new features related to query performance and robustness.
• Mentor team members through active coaching, leading by example, and code review responsibilities.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of changes in a large codebase.

What we're looking for

• 10+ years of experience in data management systems.
• Strong background in computer science with expertise in data structures and algorithms.
• Proficient in C++ or another systems programming language for large codebases.
• Experience building production-level software with robust design and high-quality coding standards.
• Passionate about database query engines, with hands-on or academic experience in databases.
• Ability to innovate and lead the development of a world-class query optimization system.
• Capable of conducting research on state-of-the-art query systems to inform design decisions.
