Role Details

As passionate about our people as we are about our mission.

Why Join Q2?

Q2 is a leading provider of digital banking and lending solutions to banks, credit unions, alternative finance companies, and fintechs in the U.S. and internationally. Our mission is simple: build strong and diverse communities through innovative financial technology—and we do that by empowering our people to help create success for our customers.

What Makes Q2 Special?

Being as passionate about our people as we are about our mission. We celebrate our employees in many ways, including our “Circle of Awesomeness” award ceremony and day of employee celebration among others! We invest in the growth and development of our team members through ongoing learning opportunities, mentorship programs, internal mobility, and meaningful leadership relationships. We also know that nothing builds trust and collaboration like having fun. We hold an annual Dodgeball for Charity event at our Q2 Stadium in Austin, inviting other local companies to play, and community organizations we support to raise money and awareness together.

Role Overview

This role plays a key technical leadership role within the AI Producer Team, responsible for building and operating Q2’s agentic AI ecosystem (AI agents, reusable AI framework, shared data connectors, and governance-aligned delivery).

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep AI systems expertise (agentic architectures + RAG + evaluation), strong backend engineering, and practical infrastructure understanding. The team operates in close partnership with governance stakeholders and business consumers across the lifecycle: Idea → Screening → Active Build → Adoption & Impact.

Key Responsibilities

Architect & Evolve the Agentic AI Ecosystem

  • Design and mature a shared internal AI framework including:
  • Agent/tool orchestration patterns, memory models, and guardrails
  • LLM integration layer (e.g., Bedrock or equivalent)
  • Retrieval systems (chunking, vector search, enterprise data integration)
  • Standardize patterns to prevent duplication, manage cost, and ensure architectural consistency.

Deliver Enterprise-Grade Internal Tools

  • Build and operate AI tools integrating internal data systems (logs, code, documentation, cases, GitLab, Snowflake, pipelines, Grafana, etc.).
  • Ensure reliability, security, privacy, auditability, observability, and performance standards are met.

Drive Adoption & Operational Excellence

  • Partner with stakeholders on enablement, documentation, rollout strategy, and feedback loops.
  • Define monitoring and governance mechanisms to ensure safe scaling of AI solutions.

Measure Business Impact

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define clear success metrics during intake (time saved, cycle time reduction, automation rate, quality improvement).
  • Establish measurement frameworks to track accuracy, hallucination rates, tool effectiveness, latency, and cost over time.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • A four-year bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of experience building scalable backend or distributed systems in production environments.
  • Hands-on experience designing and productionizing AI systems (agentic workflows, generative AI features, or RAG-based solutions) in enterprise or high-scale environments.
  • Experience implementing evaluation mechanisms, reliability patterns, and performance optimization for AI-powered systems.
  • Should have ability to own large subsystems or cross-service architectures with measurable impact.
  • Strong proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and GitOps principles.

AI / Agentic Systems

  • Strong engineering background with recent hands-on experience productionizing AI systems.
  • Deep understanding of agentic patterns: planner–executor models, tool use, orchestration, memory strategies, and guardrails.
  • Strong RAG expertise:
  • Designing production-grade retrieval systems integrated with vector search and enterprise data
  • Improving retrieval quality using precision/recall, grounding accuracy, and relevance metrics
  • Diagnosing failure modes (retrieval misses, context dilution, hallucination due to weak grounding)
  • Advanced chunking strategies (semantic, hierarchical, metadata-aware)
  • Experience implementing offline and online evaluation, prompt/agent regression testing, and safe rollout strategies.

Backend Engineering (Strong)

  • Strong system design capabilities:
  • API design, distributed systems, async/event-driven architectures
  • Data modeling, caching, rate limiting, idempotency, resiliency patterns
  • Experience building scalable services supporting agent workflows and policy enforcement.

Infrastructure / Platform (Practical Working Depth)

  • Cloud-native fundamentals:
  • Containerization, Kubernetes, CI/CD, secrets management, observability
  • Performance tuning and operational reliability
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with platform and security teams.

Leadership (Staff Level)

  • Should have ability to drive architecture standards and cross-team alignment through influence.
  • Proven experience delivering platform-level capabilities (not only feature-level systems).
  • Strong decision-making under ambiguity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building Enterprise grade AI platforms.
  • Enterprise AI security experience (RBAC/ABAC, audit logging, data policies, prompt injection mitigation).
  • Familiarity with governance workflows and executive stakeholder alignment.
  • Experience managing embedding upgrades, re-indexing strategies, and embedding drift.

This position requires fluent written and oral communication in English.

Health & Wellness

  • Hybrid Work Opportunities
  • Flexible Time Off
  • Career Development & Mentoring Programs
  • Health & Wellness Benefits, including competitive health insurance offerings and generous paid parental leave for eligible new parents
  • Community Volunteering & Company Philanthropy Programs
  • Employee Peer Recognition Programs – “You Earned it”
